In the Middle East and North Africa, resilience to climate change has been low on most public and political agendas, overshadowed by the immediate threats of war, poverty, unemployment and human rights abuses. And yet, as a recent CASCADES report shows, climate change is already interacting with these threats and other vulnerabilities to profoundly damage human security. The region has immense untapped human potential, especially among its young people, which can be harnessed to address climate and environmental challenges nimbly, and with greater co-benefits for societal well-being. There are also opportunities to forge more effective partnerships with Europe, with whom MENA shares an interest in tackling the urgent challenge of climate change. In this session, young people from Algeria, Egypt and Palestine will present their ideas for how MENA and Europe can work together to boost climate resilience.
